Making Changes...

Starting now, SPILT MILK will be printing our designs on high-quality garments manufactured locally in Southern California. Oh, and we’re making shipping easier and more transparent than ever before… 

In the nearly three years since we launched, we’ve grown quite a bit. Perhaps our growth has been a little slow. And that’s to be expected when you focus on building a brand with purpose and meaning. A community with common goals and shared values. A family. These things take time. We’ve always prefered substance over flash and bang, anyway. We’re not in it for the clout and a quick buck. 

But with all that growth comes change. It’s only natural, after all. And while we’ve certainly been striving to create more quality content for the SPILT MILK family to enjoy, there’s something we’ve been meaning to address for a while now. The quality of our clothes.

At our core we’re more than the average clothing brand. I’ve said it before and somehow I can never say it enough – it’s never been about the clothes. But we realize that the clothes are how our family is able to express themselves. When you buy a SPILT MILK t-shirt, you’re buying into our mission. You’re wearing that shirt with pride. You’re letting the world know that you’re a member of our family. Shouldn’t the quality of that shirt match the quality of every other aspect of our brand? I mean, there’s nothing wrong with the shirts we’ve been making. It’s just that they could be better. And you deserve better.

With that said, I’m stoked to announce two major changes to how we will make and sell our clothes moving forward:

  1. Quality clothes start with a quality supplier. Say hello to our new wholesaler: Los Angeles Apparel. Based in (as the name implies) South Central LA, the company prides itself on manufacturing locally and using American-made materials. The quality of the garments they produce is definitely a step up from the status quo. All shirts are garment dyed and washed in natural enzymes. This results in a comfortable, “broken-in” feel. As an added bonus, Los Angeles Apparel pays their factory employees a living wage and recycles nearly 100% of their textile waste.   2. $5 flat-rate shipping. All orders. Anywhere in the US. You cop the threads, rock the look, and spread the word. The least we can do is get our products in your hands without the worry of paying a crazy, unexpected amount for shipping. There’s nothing worse than shopping online, putting an item in your cart, and seeing some ridiculous number come out of left field and onto the price tag. That sucks. Shipping shouldn’t be pricey and it definitely shouldn’t be a surprise. From now on, we’ll ship your goods to you for a single, low price, no matter how big or how small your order may be. No codes. No hassle. No worries.

For everything you’ve done for us, we’re stepping up our game. You truly deserve it. And rest assured, the changes won’t stop here. We’ll continue to look for new opportunities to improve quality and take new avenues to add value. Although we still have a long way to go, we hope you’ll stick around for the ride. Live in the moment. Have fun. Make mistakes. Don’t cry over SPILT MILK.

It's Never Been About the Clothes...

It’s been a minute. In fact, it’s been 486 days since my last blog post and 112 days since I threw some pics on Instagram (shameless plug, @spiltmilk_clothing if you aren’t already following). I keep asking myself why it was such a struggle to keep pushing the brand forward, especially over the past year or so. A few things come to mind. But the most obvious answer is that I was nearing the end of my journey through college. 

I put a lot of pressure on myself to figure out not only what I wanted to do with my life, but also what I needed to do to support myself. Starting a clothing brand, unless you get some lucky break (and I’m talking really, really lucky), is not the move if you care about short-term financial freedom. And I’ve had a love-hate relationship with SPILT MILK because of this reality. The ebb and flow of the energy I put into the brand has always been the result of this constant clash between my desire to be creative and my need to be practical. In the past few months, I’ve graduated from college and taken a corporate job with a big company. Although SPILT MILK has been on the back burner, I’m determined not to let it fade away. But why am I telling you all this?

Here’s where I’m at now. That big, corporate job I just told you about? I was laid off about a week ago, only two months into the position. Thanks COVID-19!

The virus and the damage it’s causing worldwide sucks, but it’s been a huge reminder of why I made SPILT MILK in the first place. It’s never been about the clothes. It’s about inspiring everyone to live out their own “don’t cry” philosophy. Embracing your mistakes. Standing tall in the face of adversity. Am I bummed that I got let go from a well-paying job working for people I really admire? Of course! But I think this pandemic and all the terrible things that have and will come of it serve as a testament to the brand and what we stand for. There is so much to learn from these strange times.

Although I won’t be dropping new threads anytime soon, I’m not going to let the current situation stop me from getting creative and spreading the word about SPILT MILK and our “don’t cry” philosophy. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be posting blogs as part of a series to help you learn how to shift your perspective and make the most out of your time in quarantine. You may have felt bored, sad, stressed, lonely, or all of the above at one point or another during this whole ordeal. But you’re not alone. Don’t cry, let’s do something about it. Together.
